NG Moederkerk / Klipkerk: a Krugersdorp story since 1890
The first recorded meeting was held on 18 November 1889 at M.P.W. Pretorius's home on Paardekraal farm. The congregation was formally established on 7 June 1890. A cornerstone for its first church was laid in April 1894, and that building was inaugurated in 1898.
To serve a rapidly growing mining-town congregation, a new stone church was designed by renowned South African architect Gerard Moerdijk and completed in 1935. The heritage building at 42 President Street is commonly known as the Klipkerk and is now associated with the AFM Tower of Life Church.
Founded as Krugersdorp's Dutch Reformed mother congregation in 1890, its first church was followed by Gerard Moerdijk's landmark Klipkerk in 1935.
