A stone landmark rooted in Krugersdorp
Krugersdorp's Anglican story reaches back to the temporary Calico Church of 1888; the present St Peter's is an enduring CBD landmark.Krugersdorp's Anglican community was meeting in a temporary wood-and-calico church by February 1888. That early place of worship also served as a school and helped bring settled community life to the young mining town.
The present stone Church of St Peter dates from 1905 and was designed by the architectural practice associated with Sir Herbert Baker. It was extended in the 1950s, when a tower was added in the same architectural language.
